October 24-25, 2024 – Over the course of two inspiring days, the Department of Mass Communication at the University of Karachi, in partnership with MediaVerse and Sony Alpha, hosted a transformative documentary filmmaking workshop designed to give young creatives the tools and experience they need to bring impactful stories to life.
Titled“Documenting Stories, Inspiring Change,” the workshop took place at the KUBS Auditorium, bringing together students, budding filmmakers, and media enthusiasts who are passionate about making a difference through film.
Guided by acclaimed filmmaker and photographer Zainab Nasir, participants dove into hands-on sessions that covered all aspects of documentary production. From navigating different shoot setups—whether indoors or outdoors—to mastering the art of interviewing and capturing real-life moments, attendees experienced the full spectrum of documentary filmmaking.
Zainab shared insights from her own journey, showing how a compelling story can unfold through careful shot selection, thoughtful interviews, and meticulous editing.
The workshop was enriched by industry leaders Mr. Imran Chauhan, Director of Sony, and Mr. Kaiser Jillani, Demand Creation Manager at Sony, who shared their thoughts on the future of filmmaking and Sony Alpha’s commitment to nurturing talent in Pakistan.
Their insights highlighted Sony Alpha’s dedication to storytelling and made the experience even more memorable for participants.
MediaVerse, the student-led platform of the department, proudly concluded such a marking, another step toward students with practical career skills.
