REBIRTH

By Fizza Abbas

As the sun set, I sat too.
The light faded, and the darkness grew.
Flocks of singing feathers heading home,
And the nine-to-five eyes shut the rooms.

I hit the floor, and the curtain draws.
The show is over; I hear no applause.
A sigh of relief echoes on the empty stage
Once home, then theatre, now a cage.

Scene 1

Life is busy; it’s a constant run
One’s chasing dreams, the other fun.

Scene 2

On the bathroom floor, under the sink, I rip open my flaws, hoping they won’t stink. The clock ticks. I crumble beneath what I’ve built. Trapped in haunted whispers no one heard, I gulp.

What am I? The inferior one? The last in a run? The low hushes, now louder… “You are none.” Nothing but an empty weight drawing breaths A burden who dreams of dying many deaths.

In the depth of my bones rests the death of my dreams.
Ashes and regrets churn in my crimson streams.
But it’s not the last goodbye, not the final scene
A flicker survives small but fiercely serene.

Scene 3

From murky waters blooms a sacred lotus, A delicate beauty born from a sludgy focus. Above, a jewel’s explosion in blazing rays, Marks my rebirth in a cosmic blaze.

Scene 4

Between the pages of fantasy and classics, I feel the rise of a phoenix reborn and drastic. She sets herself aflame to rise on her own; I, too, lit the fire of hope from ashes alone.
